The Steinway Project

A community project for the benefit of South Boston's Prizery
spearheaded by Benchmark Community Bank

Knowing that the Prizery currently must rent a Steinway piano every time it hosts a notable artist, Benchmark Community Bank conceived the idea of starting a fund for the purchase of a suitable instrument for the space. Research revealed that it will take around $100,000 to fulfill this goal. To make this dream come true for the Prizery and the music-loving people of Southside Virginia, the bank will both encouraged contributions to the fund and drove the effort to raise funds through events and related activities. It was the intent and hope of the bank to make this a community project; in other words, one that was both supported and embraced by the community, involved all segments of the community, and will ultimately benefit most members of the community.

The Steinway project was kicked off onMarch 18, 2010 and reached surpassed its goal in October of 2011.  the piano was purchased in November of 2011 and dedicated on January 29, 2012 at a celebration event featuring the music of Kenneth Cranford.
